Master procrastinator that I am, I haven't written anything here in a long while so this post was meant to cover anything interesting that might have happened since last time.
I got to go home to Winnipeg for the holidays and see all (well almost) my favorite people! While it was FREEZING there, I've certainly felt warm enough being surrounded by all of my friends.
End of cheesy spiel
The highlight of this trip was certainly the 5 days spent at a cabin my friends and I rented in Gimli. We were pretty much completely cut from the world (read no cell signal or internet) and it made for a great getaway. We played games, went on walks, cross-country skiing, ate, read and caught up. Most of us hadn't seen each other for some months and it was so great to have everyone under one roof.
Here is a not-so-concise summary of what went on.
Voici un résumé pas-si-rapide de ce qui c'est passé:
Le premier jour, dès notre arrive le fun commence. J’étais
dans la voiture avec Myriam et Tougas, nous étions les premiers à se stationer,
tout juste suivis par Thierry et Stéphany. Myriam immobilise la voiture dans le
stationnement et on voit que Thierry et Steph se sont arêtes dans la rue, juste
devant l’entrée. On sort de l’auto pour leur dire de venir jusqu’ici, il y a
plein de place dans la cours, c’est à ce moment là qu’on réalise qu’ils ne sont pas arrêtés là par
choix mais bien parce que la moitié de la voiture est dans le fossé!
Nous voilà
avec nos pelles à essayer de déterrer la voiture tout en formulant un plan pour
sortir la voiture de là. Ça a du être un bon 45 minutes avant que Thierry
puisse aller la garer à côté de celle de Myriam.
Cette première
petite aventure a été une si belle façon de commencer notre séjour. On y a vu
tout suite la collaboration qui allait être présente pendant tout le reste du
temps au chalet.
First day, we've barely arrived at the cabin and alreaddy the fun is starting. I was riding in the car that first got there, we parker in the driveray and could see the second car of our friends right behind us. They're stopped on the street and we get out of the car to tell them to come park here, there's plenty of room! That's when we all notice that they haven't stopped there by choice but because half of the car is stuck, in the snowy ditch. So here we all are with shovels trying to free them while coming up with a plan to get the car out. It must have been a good 45 minutes before the second car was finally able to come park in the driveway.
I think we all agreed that, though unfortunate, it was a wonderful way to begin our stay.
For the first night, we were only 5, the smallest amount the cabin would see for the next few days. We settle in, and made a simple meal from leftovers as we tried to plan a menu for our stay. The rest of the day was filled with games of crib, and relaxation. At night, my friends introduced me to the game Arkham Horror which is a collaboration between the players to take down the 'game' itself. I was highly skeptical about it but it ended up being a new favorite of mine! It should be known that, this game is so long we finished (and won!) our game the next morning.

soir était le moins ‘peuplé’ au chalet, nous nous sommes installés avant de
préparer de quoi manger à partir de ce que Myriam et Thierry avait apporté de
chez eux. Nous avons tenté d’élaborer un menu pour savoir quoi aller acheter à
Gimli le lendemain. Le reste de l’après-midi
a été comblé de jeux de crib, de relaxation et on a terminé la journée par mon
introduction au jeux Arkham Horror. Je n'étais pas convaincue par la description mais ça a été mon premier coup de cœur, un jeu
de coopération entre les participants pour gagner ensemble contre ‘le
board ‘. Puisque ça dure très longtemps, nous avons terminé, et gagné,
notre partie le lendemain matin.
Day two is when 3 more of our friends joined us. They arrived early enough to allow Myriam, Valérie and myself to go four our first cross country ski outing! This also happened to be the warmest (or least cold) day of our stay, if not of winter so far. I'm pretty terrible at x-country ski and everything hurt on the following day but I had a truly great time!
Ce jour là,
3 autres de nos amies se sont jointes à nous. Après son arivée, Valérie a
accompagné Myriam et moi pour notre première sortie de ski de fond. Il faisait
à peine froid cette journée là et nous avons eu beaucoup de plaisir. Je dois
dire que je suis pas mal nulle en ski de fond et j’ai eu mal partout après mais
ça a été une belle activité!
Ce soir là, Myriam nous a préparé un beau
jambon! Accompagné de patates pilées, d’asperges, d’une belle sauce et de pain
frais, gracieuseté de Stéphany!
On the evening of day two, Myriam baked a delicious ham for us complete with mashed potatoes, asparagus and fresh bread prepared by Steph! Oh, and Sangria too...
I also collaborated with Myriam and Thierry to bake an Amaretto "yule log" from memory. Not perfect but a success, if I do say so myself.

Avant de la dévorer, nous avons tous enfilé nos habits de neige pour aller prendre un longue marche, dans le bois, dans le noir, dans la neige. C'était une belle aventure, complète avec batailles de neige et quelques minutes de repos pour "écouter le silence". C'est puissant le silence hors de la ville.
But before we had dessert, we all suited up and went for a long walk in the woods, at night, in the snow covered trails. We had snowfights and listened to the silence of the country. It was quite an adventure!
Si ma mémoire est bonne, nous avons joué à
notre première ‘partie’ de Cards Against Humanity ce soir là. Enough said. --> day two is also when we played our first game of Cards Against Humanity. And that's all I will say about that ;-)
2e coup de cœur! SHERLOCK
Ce même soir et le lendemain matin, Gabriel nous a fait visionner les premiers épisode de la série britannique Sherlock. Je la recommande à tout le monde et je n'ai rien d'autre à ajouter. Allez-y, du début. GO.
The evening of day two and the next morning, Gabriel showed us (and introduced me to) SHERLOCK. If you don't know it's a BBC show and you need to watch it. It was definitely another thing I added to my favorites. I totally fell in love with it and have since caught up all 3 seasons (granted there are only 3 episodes per season)
You may also recognize my title, which I found fitting. But mostly I just wanted to use that line because I love it!
